Preeclampsia affects 2%–8% of pregnancies, and preterm preeclampsia 0.5%–2% of pregnancies. Preeclampsia, particularly when it occurs before 32 weeks’ gestation, remains a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.
